Jakarta. Batam in Riau Islands will hold the 2017 Orchid Country Club Golf Tournament on Saturday (26/11) and Sunday to promote the region as a golfing destination.

The event seeks to attract tourists from neighboring Johor Baru in Malaysia and Singapore.

Nongsa Sensation Batam Island chairman Andy Fong said many golfers from the two regions come to Batam on weekends.

"For Singaporeans and Johor Bahru residents golf is a lifestyle. Golf courses in Batam are like heaven [to them]," Andy said on Monday (20/11).

Participation in the Orchid Country Club Golf Tournament comes in a package with dinner.

Golfers will be also offered to take part in Batam culinary tours, spa sessions and shopping.

Esthy Reko Astuti, tourism development deputy at the Ministry of Tourism, said the ministry also supports golf-centered crossborder tourism in the region.
